Parika man found dead on public road

A man was on Friday found in a motionless state along the Parika Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), suspected to have died of natural causes. The dead man has been identified as Dindyal Sookram, 52, of Peter’s Street, Parika, EBE.
Acting D Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) Commander, Leslie James told Guyana Times that a sister of the now dead man made a report to the Parika Police Station that her brother was laying on the roadway. The man was picked up and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
James noted that the body bore no makes of violence and detectives are awaiting the post-mortem results to determine the way forward with respect to investigations.
When contacted, Nadeem Sookram, nephew of the dead man, told this publication that they would have received information about the man’s death at about 17:30h on Friday.
He explained that he immediately visited the scene where he saw his uncle laying on the roadway. He admitted that the now dead man was an alcoholic, while adding the he was also ill for quite some time.
“When he fell ill we argued with him to stop drinking but he continued…,” the man stated.
He also ruled out foul play in the man’s death. The deceased leaves to mourn his six children and other family members. A post-mortem is expected to be conducted on the man’s body on Monday.
