Partygoers arrested for breaching COVID-19 guidelines in Linden

Over 40 persons were arrested at a party in Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) last Saturday and are expected to be charged for breaching the existing COVID-19 guidelines.
Regional Commander, Superintendent Hugh Winter said that the people were arrested at the event which was hosted at a home at Wisroc, Wismar, Linden.
Winter told Guyana Times that these persons will soon be processed for court for the offence of breach of restriction on social activities while confirming that no approval was granted by the Regional COVID-19 Task Force for the event to be hosted.
Ranks reportedly swooped down on the home where the party was being held shortly after midnight on Saturday and made the arrest.
Only last month, 40 Lindeners were arrested and charged for breaking the 6pm to 6am curfew as ranks of Region 10’s Police Division continue to be proactive in enforcing the mandatory regulation.
Many of these curfew breakers were caught as a result of roadblocks, community patrols and responding to calls of persons breaking social distancing regulations for entertainment purposes.
The 40 persons appeared virtually at the Linden Magistrate’s Court and were each fined.
The failure to pay the fines will result in persons being remanded to prison for up to three months. Those who refused to show up for court were charged in absentia.
Of recent, the Police would have received reports of persons hosting house parties and other social gatherings indoors after curfew hours.
