Passenger robbed, chopped by bus conductor

A 26-year-old man is left hospitalised after he was robbed and chopped about his body by a minibus conductor on Sheriff Street, Georgetown.
Guyana Times understands that the victim was in a Route 48-route minibus on Friday last when he attempted to pay the conductor, and another man, who is allegedly the friend of the conductor, took some money he had in his possession.
The man reportedly began begging that they returned his money but they refused.
However, while on Sheriff Street as the man attempted to exist the bus, the conductor and his friend began assaulting him.
The conductor then armed himself with a cutlass and as the 26-year-old man attempted to fight him off he was chopped about his body.
In a video seen by the publication, the conductor could be seen running across the road with the cutlass in his hand.
At the time, the victim was seen lying motionless at the corner of the road.
The conductor then began chopping the man about his body, while public spirited citizens ran to his rescue.
The conductor and his accomplice then took away the man’s phone and other items from his pocket. Public spirited persons called for an ambulance which took the victim to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
A report was subsequently made to Police managed to apprehend one of the suspects. (G9)
