A 53-year-old pastor and a farmer of Vauxhall, Canal Number Two Polder, West Bank Demerara (WCD), has allegedly drowned at L’Oire Backdam, Canal Number One, WCD.
Dead is Maurice Wilson. Reports are that Wilson, who was the pastor of Bagotville Assembly of God Church, died sometime between 06:00 and 18:00h on Thursday.
According to Police, the dead man’s wife, Shundell Wilson, told investigators that she accompanied him to L’Oire Backbam, Canal Number One, WCD, and he continued his journey on foot en route to his farm, which is located about 180 rods from the Number One Canal Road. She said that she returned home and at about 18:40h when he did not return, she became worried.
Police stated that the woman said that her husband suffers from epilepsy and as such she contacted a family friend, who immediately dispatched a search party and about 19:15h.
During the search, the family friend discovered the man’s lifeless body floating face down in the canal to the western side of his farm. The body was removed from the creek and the police were called. According to Police, no marks of violence were seen on the exposed parts of the body. Wilson’s body was escorted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
