Patadin’s century, Narine and Dhanpaul’s all-round effort hand Majestic easy win over Richmond
The action continued in the Caribbean Fest 40 Overs Tournament 2021 as the Majestic Cricket Club dominated the Richmond Liberty Hill Cricket Club at the Baisley Pond Ground, New York. This was thanks to the in-form Chris Patadin, who smashed a brilliant century, and the all-round efforts of Avi Dhanpaul and Derick Narine.
Majestic CC won the toss and elected to bat. They are no strangers to batting first, with the team comprising many players of Guyanese heritage are a force to be reckoned with in the League. The Majestic side have been known to post big totals and then go on to defend them, and as expected, they did the same. They were able to post 270 all out in 37.3 overs, with Patadin blasting 126 runs off 83 deliveries, inclusive of three boundaries and 15 maximums. He was given support by Derick Narine, who played a patient innings of 40; Avi Dhanpaul with a cameo of 25 and Robin Rooplall with 33.
Bowling for Richmond Liberty Hill were Altaaf Habibulla (3-23); Leon Mohabir (2-46); Keron Sewnarine (2-58); Trevor Henry (2-33) and Jamiel Jackman (1-44).
The Richmond side now needed a mammoth total of 271 for victory off 240 balls, which at the time seemed like a reasonable ratio, as they could have capitalised on the powerplay overs and then play it safe to get over the line. This was done in the opening overs as the in-form Dino Choweenam and Naresh Rambharos scored 47 and 40 runs respectively. The pair put together a 51-run partnership to keep their side afloat. But after Choweenam fell, everything went downhill from there; batsmen struggled to find their footing against the bowling of Raj Singh, Dhanpaul and Narine. In the end, Richmond were bundled out for 170 in 26.1 overs. Bowling for Majestic were Singh (3-21); Narine (2-15); Dhanpaul (2-27) and Rooplall (2-35).
