Patron arrested at ECD bar with unlicensed firearm

The Police have arrested a 34-year-old Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) resident after he was found with an illegal .32 pistol at a popular bar at Melanie, ECD.
In a report on Sunday, Police stated that about 00:30h, ranks in Division 4C conducted an intelligence-led operation at the bar during which the man was arrested with the firearm. There was no ammunition in the gun when it was found.
The suspect was taken to the Vigilance Police Station, ECD, where he was profiled and placed in custody and the firearm lodged.
In 2021, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) managed to recover 71 illegal firearms, successfully taking them off the streets of Guyana and out of the hands of criminal elements.

So far this year, eight firearms, including an improvised shotgun, have been discovered in January.
More than a week ago, a 22-year-old man was arrested at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD), with an unlicensed firearm along with matching ammunition.
Police said that the gun was found between 11:15h and 12:00h during an intelligence-led operation that was carried out at a house in Hammer Head Street, Kaneville.
Reports are the suspect was arrested with an unlicensed .32 pistol, one magazine, and two live rounds of ammunition in his possession during the exercise.
It was also revealed by investigators that the suspect was wanted for a series of armed robberies in Georgetown. As a result, the young man was taken into custody pending investigations.
The operation was conducted as the GPF undertakes efforts to remove unlicensed guns from the streets.
