Peacemaker stabbed after intervening in domestic dispute

Twenty-six-year-old Sewdat Hanmon of Belvedere Village, Corentyne, Berbice, is now nursing several stabs about his body, which he received while attempting to stop a man from assaulting a woman.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday evening at about 20:00h at Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice.
Based on reports received, on the day in question Hanmon was heading home on his bicycle and in the vicinity of the Belvedere Access Road, he observed a man assaulting a woman.
As a result, he came off his bicycle and attempted to assist the woman when a scuffle ensued between him and the suspect. During the fight, the suspect reportedly broke a glass bottle and stabbed the young man at least four times about his body.
Persons in the area reportedly heard the commotion and went to the injured man’s rescue. He was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, treated and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was admitted a patient.
The matter was reported and the suspect was subsequently arrested and is assisting with the investigation.
