Pedal cyclist dies in Essequibo Coast accident

A pedal cyclist was killed along the Essequibo Coast Public Road after a minibus reportedly slammed into him on Saturday morning.
Dead is Mahendra Dyal of Perth Village, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
Reports are that the minibus was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway allegedly at a fast rate when it collided with the 42-year-old man, who was proceeding in the opposite direction. The driver reportedly told investigators that the cyclist swerved east from behind a moving vehicle into his path. Following the accident, Dyal was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Hospital. However, as a result of the extent of his injuries, he was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, but succumbed whilst being transported there.
The driver is in custody assisting with the investigation. A breathalyzer test was administered and no alcohol was detected in his breath. The body of the cyclist is presently at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
