Pedal cyclist injured after colliding with pick-up

A 69-year-old pedal cyclist is currently hospitalised in serious condition after he collided with a pick-up driven by a drunken man on Monday evening along the Fort Ordinance Public Road, East Canje, Berbice.
Police stated that the motor pick-up with registration number GSS 1447 was driven by a 32-year-old resident of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice, when the pedal cyclist, Dharanpaul Outar also called “Paul”, collided with him.
Police stated that the pick-up was proceeding south along the Fort Ordinance Public Road, East Canje, Berbice, at an alleged fast rate of speed, while the pedal cyclist was proceeding along the said road.
The driver of the pick-up is alleging that the pedal cyclist was riding towards him on the right-hand side, and as they were about to pass each other, the pedal cyclist collided with his vehicle.
As a result of the collision, the pedal cyclist fell onto the road’s surface and received injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by the said driver, where he was treated for multiple injuries about his body.
He was then admitted as a patient and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a semi-conscious state where he remains a patient.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver which proved the he was above the legal limit of alcohol consumption. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
