Pedal cyclist killed in Berbice accident

A pedal cyclist was on Thursday killed on Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) after he was struck down by a car.

Dead is 59-year-old Mohabir Ramnarine, of Albion, Corentyne, Berbice.
Reports are that the accident occurred at about 11:30h as motor car PLL 9976, driven by a 50-year-old man, was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Nigg Public Road at a fast rate of speed.

Police disclosed that the pedal cyclist was proceeding in the said direction ahead of the motor car when the motor car collided with the rear wheel of the pedal cycle.
As a result, the pedal cyclist hit the left side window screen of the car and subsequently fell onto the road surface causing him to receive injuries about his body.
He was picked up in an unconscious state by Police ranks and was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, but later succumbed while receiving treatment.
An investigation has been launched.
