Forty-seven-year-old Seebaran Dhankumar of Mahaica, East Coast Demerara has been killed in an accident that occurred at approximately 17:59h along the Strangroen Public Road at Mahaica, ECD on Tuesday.

The Police have said that at the time of the accident, Dhankumar had been riding a pedal cycle when he was struck down by a minibus that was proceeding east along the said road allegedly at a fast rate of speed.
According to the driver, he saw the pedal cyclist in front of him on the northern side of the road, but the cyclist suddenly changed direction and ended up in his path; and despite his applying brakes to avoid a collision, he collided with the pedal cyclist.
Dhankumar was taken to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation. (G9)
