Pedal cyclist killed in Mahaicony accident

A pedal cyclist succumbed to his injuries at the Mahaicony Hospital after he was struck by a motor car on Monday on Letter G Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is 28-year-old Brian Fordyce, of Mahaicony. He was struck by a motor car bearing registration number PGG 1565 around 01:30h.
According to information received, Fordyce was proceeding easterly along the road when the motor car, which was proceeding in the same direction, collided with the rear of Fordyce’s bicycle.
As a result of the impact, Fordyce was reportedly thrown onto the roadway. He was quickly picked up with visible leg and arm injuries and rushed to the Hospital in an unconscious state.
He died on Tuesday morning about 06:00h while receiving treatment at the medical facility.
The driver of the motor car, Teoron Frederick, 26, of Paradise Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), appeared at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning charged for the accident.
He denied that on the said day, he failed to stop after an accident and also failed to render assistance to Fordyce. Frederick was not charged with causing Fordyce’s death, but was expected to be slapped with a causing death charge shortly.
Nevertheless, he was placed on $100,000 bail, and was expected to return to court on December 5, 2018.
