A pedal cyclist was on Tuesday killed and a Trinidad and Tobago national detained by Police following a fatal accident at Number 29 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
The dead man has been identified as 23-year-old Keyfa Campbell of Berbice.
According to information received by Guyana Times, Campbell was proceeding west along the Lovely Lass Public Road, WCB, when he was struck by motor pick-up with registration number GPP 4166, which was at the time being driven by the 28-year-old T&T national, who was said to be proceeding in the same direction.
Reports indicate that the cyclist suddenly swerved right into the path of the pick-up causing the left front of the vehicle to collide with him and he fell onto the road surface.
Campbell was picked up and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state. However, he was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A breathalyser test conducted on the detained driver revealed that there was no trace of alcohol on his breath.
Investigations are continuing.
