A pedestrian is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was struck by a motorcar while attempting to cross the Houston Public Road, Greater Georgetown on Friday.
Lona France, 48, of Lot 4 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Georgetown sustained a fractured left leg, fractured left hand, fractured left hip and a punctured lung.
Based on information received, the motorcar driven by Oswald Michael was proceeding along the Houston Public Road and as she approached Meadow Bank, France reportedly ended up in the path of the vehicle causing her to fall to the roadway where she received injuries.
She was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was examined and admitted a patient. The driver was taken into custody and is assisting with investigations since Police believe speeding was involved.
On that note, the Police on Friday stated that speeding, inattentiveness and pedestrian crossing in the path of approaching vehicles were the main causes of fatal accidents. In fact, for the year thus far, 2935 cases were made out by the traffic department for speeding and 155 for careless driving.
