Pedestrian dies after being struck by minibus

A pedestrian has become the latest road fatality after he was reportedly struck down by a minibus while attempting to cross the Pearl Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday.
Dead is 45-year-old Ameer Hussain of Yarrowkabra, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
Based on reports received, the minibus bearing registration number BNN 9334, driven by Christopher Pickering, was negotiating a turn when it hit Hussain who was attempting to cross the road.
Eyewitnesses told Guyana Times that the driver of the minibus was proceeding at a fast rate. Hussain sustained injuries and was rushed to the Diamond hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the Route 42 minibus claimed that the man suddenly ran onto the roadway and into the path of the minibus. Pickering was taken to the Madewini Police Outpost as traffic ranks continue their investigations.
