Pedestrian dies on West Berbice road

Lindar Jagernaught of Lot 81 Murphy Dam, Rosignol, West Coast Berbice was run over by a car on the village public road, and dragged for some distance before the vehicle came to a halt, leaving parts on his body on the roadway.
According to reports, the 26-year-old father of one, who had been a labourer by profession, had left home at about 18:00hrs on Wednesday, claiming he was going to purchase a phone card. Six hours later he did not return home.

father said. Boyo Jagernaught said that when he enquired at the Police Station about the driver of the vehicle that had hit his son, he was told that the man is in custody. He said that all this time he was not told that his son had died. According to this father, after continuous enquiry, he was told that his son had died. He then went to the mortuary and saw the body of his son.
“He had on no clothes, and everything from his stomach to his legs smash in, and all his guts outside,” this shocked and devastated father detailed.
In regard to details of the circumstances surrounding the accident, family members say there is hardly any information forthcoming from anyone.
“All the people I talk to, they say dem ain’t know nothing, because dem went inside. I even ask a security working at the old bond, and he say that he went at the back to check when he hear the impact, and when he come in front, it did already happen, but he didn’t come out,” Boyo Jagernaught related.
Reports reaching this publication indicate that shortly after the accident, Police arrived on the scene and took the driver into custody. The investigations are continuing. (Andrew Carmichael)
