Home News Pedestrian injured following 2-vehicle collision
The Guyana Police Force was summoned to No. 74 Village Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice after a pedestrian was struck down by a speeding motorcar as he was standing on the roadway. A driver was also injured.
The Police have said that at about 20:30h, Aslam Sattaur, 43, of No. 74 Village, Corentyne, Berbice was struck down, thus causing him to sustain injuries about his body.
Apart from Sattaur, the accident involved motorcar HC 8914 driven by a 30-year-old man of Line Path Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice and motorcar PJJ 8540 driven by a 24-year-old man of No. 2 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
It was reported that HC 8914 was proceeding south while motorcar PJJ 8540 was proceeding north along the No. 74 Public Road allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the driver lost control and collided with the right-side rear of motorcar HC 8914, which had stopped to pick up a passenger.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian who was standing on the side of the said road was struck, after which motorcar PJJ 8940 crashed into a utility pole.
As a result, the driver of the motorcar received injuries to his head while the pedestrian received injuries to his left hand.
They were both taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where they were seen by a doctor. Sattar was discharged, while the driver was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in a stable condition.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motorcar PJJ 8540, but no trace of alcohol was detected. Investigations are ongoing.
