Pedestrian involved in Agricola fatal accident identified as mother of 4

The pedestrian who was involved in the fatal accident along the Agricola Public Road, Greater Georgetown, which took the life of Nionel Berkley, was identified as 66-year-old Shirley Hollingsworth of Agricola Public Road.
The woman who remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital was identified by one of her daughters.
However, Police in a report on the accident stated that the 24-year-old motorcyclist of East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was proceeding along the Agricola Public Road without a safety helmet when he allegedly collided with Hollingsworth, who was on the pedestrian crossing.
As a result of the collision, both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian fell onto the road’s surface where they received injuries to their bodies.

Dead: Nionel Berkley

Berkley was picked up in an unconscious state and transported by ambulance to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The pedestrian was also picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and also rushed to the hospital where she remains in a critical state.
Police stated that they are yet to uncover if the motorcyclist was the holder of a provisional or driver’s licence.
It was reported that Berkley, who was the driver attached to Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton, had dropped off the Minister and was subsequently heading home on a motorcycle when he crashed into Hollingsworth, who was crossing the road at the time.
At the home of the now dead man on Tuesday, his mother stated that his grandfather was a mechanic and after his passing, he handed everything over to her son. At that time, the now dead man was in the army but left soon after the passing of his grandfather.
The grieving mother stated that he was subsequently offered the position with the Minister. Berkley was the eldest of three children and a certified mechanic.
She last spoke with him on the day of his demise. “A lady tried crossing the road and she turned back, that is far as I know,” the mother related.
At the home of the injured Hollingsworth, her neighbours stated that she was very active despite her age. At the time, they recalled that the woman had gone to the shop to purchase a few items.
Persons in the village also stated that Hollingsworth, a mother of four, would always make it her duty to use the pedestrian crossing.
Minister Hamilton, immediately after the accident on Monday, had related that he had known the young man since he was a teenager and that he was shocked to have learnt about his demise.
