The Police have said they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on the Stanleytown public road in New Amsterdam Berbice on Saturday at about 20:45 hrs.
In this fatality, motor pick-up GKK 6238, owned and driven by 57-year-old Shafee Mohamed of Lot 55 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam Berbice was proceeding north along the western drive lane of the Stanleytown Public Road allegedly at a fast rate of speed when the driver was blinded by the oncoming lights of another vehicle and pedestrian Enquiries disclosed that motor pick up # Gkk6238 and struck down the pedestrian Wyadand Pooran, age 44 yrs, of Lot 58 Stanleytown, N/A, who was sitting on the western side of the drive lane.
Having received injuries about his body, the pedestrian was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the N/A Hospital, where he pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
The driver was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which did not find alcohol on his breath, but he has been arrested and his vehicle has been impounded at the station.
