An East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was killed on Friday as he was attempting to cross the Victoria, ECD Public Road.
Dead is 62-year-old Derick Freeman, of Lot 4 Cove and John, ECD. The accident occurred sometime around 18:45h.
According to reports reaching Guyana Times, Freeman was on the southern side of the road, crossing over to the northern end when he was struck by a vehicle, bearing registration number GTT 8040, which was heading in a western direction.
This newspaper understands that the driver of the pick-up told Police the man suddenly crossed the road and was hit by the front centre of the vehicle. He was flung into the air before landing on the roadway, hitting his head. 
The injured man was subsequently picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver was taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.
Only Thursday, a 61-year-old pedal cyclist, Latchman Khemraj, of Lot 72 Second Street, Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara, was killed after he was struck by a drunk driver while attempting to cross the road.
It was reported that around 19:15h, motor car PVV 6310 driven by a 35-year-old resident of Claybrick, Road, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara, was proceeding East along the northern lane of the Zeeburg Public Road when Khemraj allegedly rode from South to North, into the path of the motor car.
The injured man was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver, who was found to be exceedingly above the legal alcohol limit, was taken into Police custody to assist with the investigation.
