The Pee Wee Under-11 School’s Football tournament continued this past weekend at the Ministry of Education Ground in Carifesta Avenue, where Guyana’s youngest crop of football talent was on show.

With a shower of goals on Saturday, the youngsters showed that Guyana’s football future is indeed bright. In the first match of the day, Mae’s Under 12 met with Sophia, whom they barely brushed past in a 1-0 win. Both teams showed encouraging promise with several impressive plays, despite Sophia not being able to finish with a goal.
On the other half of the playing field, Golden Grove Primary staged a full onslaught on St Stephen’s Primary, with Bryan Wharton’s hat-trick leading his team to a 6-0 victory.
F.E. Pollard and South Ruimveldt Primary had to settle for a draw. Duquan Thom and Collin Saul of their respective schools ensured their teams netted two each, for the sharing of the match points.
It was refreshing to watch Kaden Wellington play. Hailing from St. Pius Primary, the youngster singlehandedly netted 4 handsome goals to secure for his school a 4-0 victory over Redeemer Primary.
Last year’s runners-up, Marian Academy, showed they are still a force to be reckoned with, registering yet another victory. Malik Barker’s triple and Asher Adams’s triple set up a 7-0 mauling of Clonbrook.
Reigning champions West Ruimveldt, obviously still strong contenders in the 2018 tournament, played marvellous group football to soar to a 3-1 win over Beterverwagting.
Also in winner’s circle was Enterprise Primary with a 3-0 win over Victoria, while Tucville Primary whipped Den Amstel 4-1. Matthew Murray’s quad of goals ensured that Mocha Arcadia would sail to a smooth 5-0 victory over J.E. Burnham Primary. Timehri Primary also secured a round 2 win over Ann’s Grove.
St Ambrose demolished Genesis Primary (La Parfait Harmonie) 5-1, owing to young Joseph Henry’s hat-trick of goals.
The Boscoe Orphanage at Plaisance rebounded with a 1-0 win, edging past Smith’s Memorial. North Georgetown upset St Margaret’s Primary, registering a 5-0 win.
After a 9-0 win last week, St. Agnes were pumped and ready to repeat the effort this week, but were treated to a walkover in their match with Craig. Also in walkovers, Colaaco were awarded a walkover against Grove, and Soesdyke won via walkover in their match with Goed Fortuin.
The Pee Wee action will continue this Saturday, October 13, at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
