Conversely, Riddim Squad and Northern Rangers have progressed, after each defeated their respective opponents 3-1 in the double-header.
The second edition of the tournament commenced with Riddim Squad’s Kevin Agard conjuring a hat-trick to lead his team to victory. Pele had opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Abosi Jarvis found the back of the net, but Agard scored the equaliser in the 33rd minute. After the half-time break, Agard gave the Mocha-based side the lead when he doubled in the 60th minute.
With a one-possession lead in the bag, Pele were under pressure as time ticked away; and were stunned by the finisher, which saw Agard complete his hat-trick seconds before the regulation time whistle.
The feature match was a huge upset, as Northern Rangers brushed ahead GFF Elite League front runners Western Tigers, outplaying them in every respect.
Steven Sankar drew first blood as early as the 11th minute; then a timely brace from Adolph George, who scored in the 30th and 69th minutes, was enough to neutralise the Tigers, whose lone goal was scored by Joshua Britton in the 47th minute.
The tournament continues at the same venue from 18:30 hrs this evening, and Santos will take on Buxton United before Police and Beacon United battle it out in the feature from 20:30 hrs.
