A 66-year-old woman of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) had to seek medical attention after she was attacked and robbed by two men on motorbike.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 10:00h at Bagotstown, EBD.
The elderly woman was walking home when the duo pounced upon her, slit her wrist with a knife, and snatched her handbag which contained money, a cellular phone, and other valuables.
Guyana Times understands that several employees at the nearby M&M Snackette witnessed the incident and rushed to the woman’s aid.
However, the perpetrators had already made good their escape.
The workers tended to the woman and assisted in getting her home.
The woman was later taken to the Diamond hospital for medical treatment owing to the severity of the cut on her wrist.
In an invited comment, the pensioner’s daughter expressed fear that her mother could have died since the knife could have struck a vital artery.
The matter has since been reported to the Police.
