Pensioner battling for life after Essequibo Coast accident
A 70-year-old Essequibo Coast pensioner is now battling for his life at the Suddie Public Hospital after he was struck down on Wednesday morning while cycling on the Richmond Village Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
Injured is Livan (only name given), called “Tuesday”, of Danielstown Village, Essequibo Coast.
According to reports, the cyclist was struck about 07:30h by a 23-year-old
goldsmith. Guyana Times was told that Livan was proceeding home from Anna Regina when he was struck by motor car PKK 6474, which was travelling in the opposite direction.
He was picked up and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with head injuries.
When this publication visited the scene, a resident in the area revealed that a loud crash was heard and upon investigating, he saw Livan lying motionless on the roadway while the motor car had reportedly stopped in another lane. The pensioner was picked up and taken to the hospital. The driver of the car has since been taken into Police custody and has been assisting with the investigation.
