Seventy-five-year-old Vishnu Mungal has been charged with obtaining money by false pretense, contrary to Section 194 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act.
The Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara resident is accused of collecting $14,040,000 from 48-year-old Karan Singh on March 2, 2023; but when the pensioner appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Singh told Magistrate Scarce that he is interested in reaching a settlement with Mungal, and suggested that the magistrate give Mungal until November 14 to make restitution. Given this disclosure, the magistrate
placed Mungal on $100,000 bail and instructed that he lodges his passport with the court.
The matter has been adjourned to November 17. (G1)
