Pensioner jailed for 2 years over theft of kitchen utensils from mandir
…another imprisoned for damage to property
A 65-year-old man was on Wednesday sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after admitting to breaking into a mandir and stealing over $320,000 in items.

Sadiq Mohamed of Grant 1802 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice was arraigned before Magistrate Renita Singh on a charge which stated that between September 5 and September 10, he broke into the Springlands Sanatan Mandir and stole several kitchen utensils and other items to the value of $320,000.
The Magistrate sentenced the unemployed man to two years in prison. His matter was called at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
In a separate matter, Totoram Ramttran, 30, of Bee-Hive North Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara (ECD) appeared in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday to answer two charges of malicious damage to property committed on Pooram Sugrim and Lochan Baksh respectively.

He was sentenced to three months and six months respectively on the first and second charges. The sentences are to be served consecutively.
