A Corentyne, Berbice pensioner was on Sunday evening killed after he was struck by a car that sped away from the scene.
Dead is Andre Buchhan, also called Nalvan Buchhan of Lot 51 Block 4, Tain, Corentyne.
At the time of the accident, the 68-year-old was heading to a friend’s home.

Reports are the pensioner was struck on the Tain, Berbice road during a power outage and as such, residents were unable to pinpoint the registration plate of the car.
Speaking with Guyana Times, the dead man’s brother, Michael Latchaya said that about 19:30h on Sunday, they were informed about the accident. He said when he arrived at the scene his brother was lying in a pool of blood in an unconscious state.
He was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Upon making enquiries, Latchaya was told that the car sped away after hitting Buchhan.
Meanwhile, Police were able to obtain surveillance footage from a home in the area as they launch an investigation. Buchhan was the third of 14 siblings. (Andrew Carmichael)
