A 70-year-old man became the latest hit-and-run victim after he was struck down along the Nismes Public Road, West Bank Demerara on Monday evening by an allegedly speeding motorcyclist.
Dead is Hurbert Caesar of Nismes Public Road, WBD. Based on information received, the now dead pensioner was heading to a shop in the area on his pedal cycle when the motorcyclist collided with him. The father of three sustained injuries and was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital in an unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The rider of the motorcycle bearing registration number CJ 5283 fled the scene, but the Police are making stringent efforts to apprehend him.
The mangled motorcycle and pedal cycle were taken into the possession of the Police as they continue their investigations.
The man’s grieving widow, Shaundell Caesar, told Guyana Times that she iwas seeking answers regarding the missing motorcyclist.
She related that her husband had left home around 18:45h on Monday on his bicycle to go to a nearby shop to purchase a bottle of Vicks when he was struck down.
The woman explained that she was home at the time Caesar left home and some time after, she received a telephone call from her neighbour who informed of her the accident. In a state of shock, she contacted other relatives who went to the scene. The devastated woman hopes that the perpetrator is arrested and brought to justice.
The man’s body was taken to the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour to await an autopsy. He leaves to mourn his wife, three children, and other relatives.
