A 76-year-old resident from Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was arrested on Thursday evening after Police searched his home and found an unlicensed firearm in his bedroom.
The illegal gun that was found in the pensioner’s home
Police, during an intelligence-led operation, contacted the pensioner at his residence, informed him of the reason for their presence and requested permission to conduct a search of his home for arms, ammunition, and drugs. According to Police, he did not object and allowed the ranks to enter and search.
During the search, Police found a Smith & Wesson PK380 firearm in the man’s bedroom, on a shelf next to his bed. Police asked him if he was a licensed firearm holder, to which he replied in the negative. He was informed of the offence, cautioned and arrested.
He was escorted to the Grove Police Station where he was placed into custody pending further investigations.
