Pensioner slapped with forgery charge

A 70-year-old woman was on Wednesday granted bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after she was slapped with a fraud charge and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Florence Marshal faced the charge, which stated that on May 3, 2017 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, she obtained the sum of $14.4 million by virtue of a forged instrument, that is to say, the last will and testament purporting to show it was signed by Hubert DaCosta Burgess, knowing the same to be false.
The pensioner denied the charge. Defence Attorney Euclin Gomes, in a bail application, asked the court to grant his client self-bail, since she was previously on station bail and has turned up to court. Police Prosecutor Warren Thornhill made no objections to bail.
As a result, Magistrate Azore released the pensioner on $10,000 bail. The case will continue on October 26, 2018.
