A pensioner is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) nursing a stab wound to her stomach and lacerations to the body after she was attacked by her ex-daughter-in-law’s reputed husband at her Nonpariel, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Tuesday.
Florie Dhooran Shivdayal, 72, of Lot 13 Nonpariel, ECD was in the lower flat of her home when she recognised the 23-year-old suspect of Lot A 6 Block 8 Enterprise, ECD in her yard.
As such, the pensioner raised an alarm but in retaliation, the man allegedly walked into the house, cuffed the woman, cut her on both hands and then stabbed her to the stomach. He then reportedly ran out of the house, jumped the fence and attempted to escape but was cornered by public spirited citizens who subsequently handed him over to the Vigilance Police Station where he was taken into custody.
The injured woman was taken to the GPHC where she was treated and admitted a patient. Her condition is listed as stable. The suspect is expected to be charged shortly.
