Pensioners among 4 arrested after discovery of gun, ammo in Berbice

Police in Berbice on Tuesday swooped down on house on Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, where several firearms and matching ammunition were found.
Based on information received, the property is owned by two pensioners, who occupy the lower flat of the house, while the upper flat is occupied by a taxi driver and his family. The pensioners are the grandparents of the taxi driver’s wife.
The two-hour search of the premises unearthed one black and brown Polymer 80 Inc .9mm pistol #PF9405C; one magazine containing four live rounds; one SA Sports Outdoor gear bow with arrow; one 12-gauge shotgun, wrapped in black plastic with scotch tape and one black Powerline Air Gun (9mm), with gas and pellets.

In addition, a search was conducted at a house owned by the 27-year-old taxi driver at No 76 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, where two holsters and a pistol cleaning kit were also found.
The four adult occupants of the house were arrested and taken to Springlands Police Station where they were questioned. The two pensioners were subsequently released on self-bail while the taxi driver and his wife remain in custody.
