People’s Choice T20 cricket set for February 21

Cricket fans have a reason to celebrate as a new feature – the People’s Choice T20 Cricket Match – has been added to the Department of Social Cohesion’s Mashramani calendar of events.
During a media briefing on Wednesday, Mash Coordinator Andrew Tyndall disclosed that fans can go to the Department’s Republic Jubilee 2020 Facebook page and vote for the Caribbean country they want Guyana to face.
“We will look forward to the entire Guyanese population coming out and rooting for the Guyana team as “One People, One Nation with One Destiny”,” he said.
The match will be held at the National Stadium on February 21.
Another huge sporting event Guyanese can look forward to is the Republic Track and Field Games to be held at Leonora Track and Field Stadium. According to Tyndall, the budget for the games is $4.5 million and will see the Department collaborating with the Guyana Overseas Athletic Association and the Athletic Association of Guyana.
He noted that during the drafting of the Mashramani calendar of events, an important criterion was that there must be activities that allow Guyanese of every persuasion to participate in the celebrations. (DPI)
