Pepsi Hikers crush Old Fort 9-0

GCC Spartans earn draw

Pepsi Hikers romped to a commanding victory over Old Fort who recorded their second loss in two days during the Guyana Hockey Board/ Farfan & Mendes, Woodpecker Products 1st Division Outdoor hockey League.

Playing at the St. Stanislaus College Ground, Carifesta Avenue on Saturday afternoon, Hikers romped to a 9-0 victory over Old Fort with Shane Samuels scoring a hat-trick of goals for the win.

By the first half of the one hour affair, Hikers were 3-0 up as Robert France, who was injured in the last match Hikers played along with Randy Hope and Samuels scoring.

In the second half of the match, Kevin Fogenay got Hikers to their fourth goal in the 30th minute while Tivesarid Garnett extended that lead to five just four minutes later. Samuels returned for his second in the 45th minute while Andrew Stewart got amongst the goals in the final quarter where he scored twice in the 45th and 48th minute to have Old Fort reeling 7-0.

Stewart and Samuels sunk a depleted Old Fort with two more goals to finish the contest 9-0.

Meanwhile, in the women’s contest Woodpecker Hikers were rocked back with a draw in a contest they were expected to win against GCC Spartans.

One of the favorites teams to win the competition, Hikers, were bamboozled at the development Spartans had made in their second contest of the tournament to draw the match 1-1.

Spartans fended off Hikers and managed to score in the 37th minute where Serena Chan managed to find a way to break the Hikers’ defense but Tekisha DeLeon composed herself to score in the 43rd minute and earn a valuable draw.

The action continues at the same venue with Pizza hut GCC taking on Old Fort Shooting stars in the women’s division and Bounty GCC facing Saints at the St. Stanislaus College Ground, Carifesta Avenue from 15:00h.
