Permaul confident of team’s ability despite non-selection

Following another thriller at the Providence National Stadium, this time involving the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the St. Lucia Stars, the local team is looking to secure 3 in 3 for their first segment of home matches.
The hope of leaving for their Caribbean tour with a clean slate resonated far beyond the pitch, field and boundaries, even to the dressing room where Guyanese bowler Veerasammy Permaul has spent the first two home games.
Permaul who is waiting on his chance to don the Warrior’s outfit on the field, related to the media that he is confident in the current team’s ability ahead of Sunday’s match up.
“I think the guys really played well for the past two nights and it’s very important to win the home games. If you can win all you home games, it makes it easier going outside and ending in the top two,” Permaul said.
The left arm spinner described the atmosphere in the dressing room when the match was almost taken from them by a solid partnership between Trinidadian natives Kieran Pollard and Lendl Simmons. “I think that everybody believed that we could’ve won, we know that Pollard and Simmons are destructive players and we knew if we could get either one out, it would pull the game back in our favour,” he stated.
With the Providence pitch looking a bit slow in Saturday evening’s matchup, Permaul noted that the time of play is often times crucial to the way the pitch plays. “During the day, the wicket will be a little more favoured to spin bowling, but in the night the dew get the ball to come on a little bit more to that bat. I think that was the reason why we had par score this game, and hopefully next game we got more runs on the board,” the spinner disclosed.
Speaking on his fellow countryman Keemo Paul’s stunning last over which steered the team to a nail biting victory, Permaul revealed that he has been observant of Paul’s ability. He noted that the young man id doing well and like most of the country he is looking forward to more exhilarating bowling from him. “I think he’s an exceptional talent. Looking at him from last year, I think he really developed as a player.”
Guyana will play their third home match today against the Barbados Tridents, after which they will depart to the Caribbean and Lauderhill Florida for their away games, before returning to their homeland for their final two home matches.
