The action continued in the NBS 2nd Division 40 over competition as Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) battled GNIC in a one-sided second round affair at the DCC ground.
The game saw DCC gain an advantage of 8 runs due to a slow start by their opponent, in the 35-over affair.

Joshua Persaud, Ashmead Nedd and Alphius Bookie were able to propel DCC to 289 in 35 overs. Steven Sankar and Daniel Mootoo demolished the entire GNIC unit with figures of 5-24 and 4-17

Batting first, DCC posted a mammoth total of 289 all out in their allotted overs. They asserted their dominance from the first ball to avoid a reoccurrence of last week’s game where they were forced on the back foot tottering at 54-8.
If it wasn’t for the brilliance of Carlton Jacques (89) and Ashmead Nedd 4-27 they would have registered their first loss in round one.
On Saturday, Shamar Yearwood (12) and Joshua Persaud opened the batting for DCC but Yearwood was removed early when he was trapped lbw by Ramole Bourne.
Nevertheless, Persaud stood firm at the other end alongside Raymond Perez until he narrowly missed out on a century with an impressive 98. From 51 balls. Persaud slammed eight boundaries and an equal amount of maximums while Perez (17) departed a short while after to take the score to 149-3.
After that, Alphius Bookie supported with a sturdy 48 from 32 balls while Ashmead Nedd remained unbeaten on 45 from 22.
GNIC’s bowling efforts were led by Premchand Sukhdeo who had 2-58 with support from Jeremiah Benjamin 2-60, Bourne 1-36, Dwain Dick Jr 1-31 and Chris Harry 1-56.
Needing a mammoth total of 290 off 210 balls at a net run rate of 8.3 runs per over, GNIC got off to a shaky start losing the wicket of the inform Nicholas Marcs who was run out for 2 with the score on 17 in the 3rd over.
Dick took matters into his own hands and blasted a quick fire 33 off 22 balls but he was bowled by Steven Sankar as he attempted one too many big shots. It wasn’t long after that the wicket of Premchand Sukhdeo fell for 7 to have GNIC pegged at 43-3.
Within a matter of 13 runs two more wickets fell compliments Daniel Mootoo. The score then was 56-5. Sankar returned and bagged two more wickets, while Mootoo bagged his fourth as the score reached 60-7.
Nine runs later GNIC folded for 69 in 16.2 overs. The leg spin duo of Mootoo (5-25) and Sankar (4-17) ensure a comfortable victory ahead of round 3.
