Persaud edges out stiff competition to emerge winner of Trophy Stall Golf Tournament

The action continued on Saturday last at the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) as the Trophy Stall Golf Tourney ended with a bang. Left-handed hard hitter Videsh Persaud edged out Hilbert Shields and Ayube Subhan to win his second tournament in four weeks.
Playing alongside Ronald Bulkan, Mike Mangal and club VP Paton George, Persaud started slowly, but stormed back on the back nine to steal the first-place trophy along with best net back nine.

The three winners shared all six trophies and vouchers with veteran Shields capturing the lion’s share, winning three prizes. Other good performers included former Guyana Open champ Avinda Kishure with the overall low gross score of 72, Avinash Persaud, club captain Patrick Prashad, Tom Watkins, Kasim Khan, and Ronald Bulkan.
The results for the day were as follows:

* 2nd: Hilbert Shields, Net 65 / Gross 81
* 3rd: Ayube Suban, Net 66 / Gross 78
* Best Net Front-9: Hilbert Shields
* Best Net Back-9: Videsh Persaud
* Nearest To the Hole: Hilbert Shields
The first-place winner carted off a trophy plus a $5000 voucher, while the second-place winner got a trophy plus a $4000 voucher, and third place received a trophy plus a $3000 voucher. The best net front nine winner received a trophy plus a $1500 voucher and the best net back nine winner received a trophy plus a $1500 voucher, and the player nearest to the flag received a trophy plus a $1000 voucher.

The points chase is heating up in anticipation of next weekend’s GTT Guyana Open, where the top golfers from Guyana, the Caribbean and others from around the world will compete for the coveted prizes. This weekend’s tournament was generously sponsored by Trophy Stall, a longtime friend to golf and all sporting activities in Guyana. The sponsor is committed to continuing to be a part of the growth of golf in Guyana.

The players who have participated in tournaments from September 18 to October 25 would be eligible for consideration for free entry as a player in the Guyana Open Tournament via a competition format. The points for free entry will be for the 10 best net scores for each tournament. Also, points will be awarded to the top five players of the day, based on their net scores. The player who accumulates the most points at the end of the exercise will be declared the winner, and can participate in the Guyana Open without having to pay the tournament fee.
