Persaud, King, Singh lead list of victors

GMR&SC’s National Race of Champions…

On one of the coolest days ever experienced at the South Dakota Racing Circuit, the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) on Sunday staged the 2020 edition of the National Race of Champions, wherein just over 20 events were scheduled to be contested.

Andrew King easily tore away from the pack after the safety car had departed

However, although entrance was free to the viewing public, the meet was scarcely attended, and the competition was a bit tame. It was clear from the inception that, in almost every race, each competitor was in a lane of their own — whether it was in terms of experience or build of machine.
Following the traditional late start, top performances came from the usual suspects in the Street Bikes, Street Tuners, Starlet Cup and Group categories.

Stefan Jeffery and Andrew King dominated Groups 3 and 4, each of which consisted of 3 races. After Jeffery swept Group 3 in the first two races, he was forced to retire before the start of the third race, which left Adrian Bacchus and Aaron Bethune favoured for victory in the battle.

King made light work of the Group Four competition in his supercharged RX-7, securing wins that saw every competitor being lapped once.
Chet Singh reigned supreme in Group 2, wherein he swept the category ahead of Rameez Mohamed and Haniff Mohamed.
For the larger bikes, Kevin Persaud was winner of the Super Stock category after chalking up two comfortable wins while sporting the number 93.
Roopnarine Dasrat raced to two victories and placed second in the three Street Tuner events to claim the category win. He battled with Raymond Seebarran, whom he bettered once but was vanquished in the other races.

Meanwhile, Rameez Mohamed had a good day in the Starlet Cup, which saw him claim two comfortable victories to top the category.
More details about the category participants would be published in a subsequent article.
