It will be Berbice Educational Institute (BEI) taking on Annandale Secondary for glory in the inaugural Beharry Group Under-19 Secondary Schools’ T20 final after the latter secured their spot in the championship match with a 7- wicket drubbing of Abram Zuil Secondary.
Abram Zuil won the toss and opted to bat first on Wednesday ay the Enterprise Community Center Ground, East Coast Demerara (ECD); a decision that would soon become a nightmare for the Essequibo side.
Their leading run- scorer, Ravid Fredericks perished first for just 5 runs off the bowling of Joshua Bollers. Eshwar Tilak and Marcanthony Obermuller did the repair work with a 39- run partnership for the second wicket before Tilak went back to the dugout for 12 from 20.
Obermuller was the most outstanding batter for Abram Zuil, slamming 5 fours on his way to 30 off 33 deliveries. A late 12 off 26 off the bat of Yovesh Bridgemohan gave the Essequibo side some impetus as the crawled to 87- all out in 19 overs.
Akeem Persaud wreaked havoc with the ball, snaring 4-11 from 4 overs. Sanjay Dindyal claimed 3-14 from 4 while Captain Bollers backed up with 2-32 from his 4.
Abram Zuil felt a bit of hop early on as Fredericks managed to remove Annandale opener Jermaine Paton for 8 in the 3rd over. Nicholas Ramrattan fell victim to Rhonel Nurse soon after for a duck as Annandale found themselves at 15-2.
However, Captain Bollers rose to the occasion constructing 32 in 39 balls, punctuated by 3 boundaries. Ruel Dindyal’s unbeaten 29 off 33 proved valuable as Annandale were able to cross the line at 88-3 in 16 overs.
Fredericks, Nurse and Joash Inniss claimed one wicket each.
As such, Annadale Secondary ave punched their tickets to next week’s final, where they will meet BEI who advanced after Qualifier 1 earlier this week. That final is set to take shape on Tuesday, August 25th at the Queen’s College Ground in Georgetown.
