Persaud wins Yokohama Tires Golf Tournament

Eight times Guyana Open Champion Avinash Persaud resumed his winnings ways as he stormed the Greens this past Saturday to emerge champ of the Beharry Automotive Limited (BAL) Open.

Despite light showers, Persaud lit up the Course this past Saturday to win his first major Open of 2018. The Champ recorded a Best Net of 71, displacing the likes of second place Patrick Prashad (72/9), third place Patanjalee ‘Pur’ Persaud (72/20) and fourth place Fazil Haniff (72/13).
Veteran golfers Prashad, and Haniff and even recovering from injury Pur \Persaud, had good outings as their respective 2nd, 3rd, and 4th places were 1 stroke behind Persaud’s), was a tie that had to be determined by the ‘Back 9’ count!
Nearest to The Pin prize was snatched up by Kassim Khan (6 feet) while Persaud, who also won best Gross for his 73 walked away with the grand prize of four new Yokohama tires compliments of BAL.
Other golfers that scored in the top ten were Papo Haniff (73/6), Deanand Bissessar (75/22), Joaan Deo (75/18), Roy Cumming (77/11), Maurice Solomon (78/25), Aleem Hussain (78/12) and Balgobin Ragnauth (79/18).
Following the match, Persaud said, “This was normal performance, I shot a net 71, some players may have had a difficulty because the Course lacked bounce and roll today, but I mastered it and so was able to produce a good game.”
This tournament marked the first Yokohama Tires of BAL who further made a commitment for another tournament later in the year. Marketing Officer of BAL, Ulex Smith said the Company’s support for golfing in Guyana, adding that BAL continually strives to give back to Guyana in the form of charitable work and sponsorships.
