Persaud’s 4-for helps MGSS into semis

WDCA 50-Over Competition
Mc Gill Super Stars SC defeated Christ Ambassadors SC in a thrilling low-scoring encounter in the West Demerara Cricket Association’s (WDCA) 50-Over competition quarterfinal at Canal Sports Club Ground.

Travis Persaud

Mc Gill Super Stars won the toss and elected to bat first in a game that was reduced to 40 overs due to a late start.
Mc Gill got off to a brisk start after losing Travis Persaud for just 8 in the 4th over, leaving the score at 30-1.
Sudesh Persaud and Shafiek Deen rotated the strike nicely, taking the score to 83 before Persaud fell lbw to Chris Sam for 28 in the 14th over.
Abdool Razack then joined Deen, and they carried the score to 118 before Razack’s wicket fell, being bowled by Immanuel Martin for 24 in the 23rd over.
Deen then fell shortly after — at 122-4 in the 26th over — for 36 in trying to hit Kenton Boyce over mid-wicket. He was caught at deep mid-wicket. Mc Gill suffered a mini collapse, slipping from 122-4 to 136-8 within the space of 5 overs. Prahalad Singh then played a cameo of 28 to see his team to a decent total of 180 all out in 38.5 overs.
Bowling for Christ Ambassadors SC were Kenton Boyce with 3-25 from 5 overs, Immanuel Martin with 3-30 from 8 overs, and Joel Thomas supporting with 2-35 off 8 overs.
Needing a simple target of 181 for victory in 40 overs, CA collapsed to 146 all out in 32.1 overs, despite C. Sam putting up a resistance with 70, which included eight fours. The only other support given to him was from D Ross and M Alert, who scored 15 and 13 respectively, as the MGSS bowling ripped through their batting line-up.
Bowling for the MGSS SC, Travis Persaud tormented the Ambassadors with 4-25, Abdool Razack with 2-20, Diquan Murray with 2-30 and Sudesh Persaud with 2-30.
MGSS won the encounter by 35 runs, and will now advance to the semifinals of the WDCA 50-Over Competition.
