This publication understands that the person of interest, who is also a Lindener, was being sought by Police for some time now and had managed to elude ranks. Ranks reportedly conducted numerous searches of houses in Linden as they hunted for the suspect. Reliable sources have indicated that the suspect turned himself in to Police for questioning on Monday as ranks continued the search of his home for possible evidence linked to the crime.
Regional Commander, Superintendent Hugh Winter on Tuesday confirmed that someone was held and remains in custody in relation to the case but noted that they weren’t considered the “prime” suspect.
“We’re doing some investigations…based on information that we have received, we’re trying to put the pieces together”, he told this publication.
According to Police, at the time of the shooting, the deceased, who was a father of eight, was seated in the company of a male friend on a bench underneath a shed when a lone gunman approached them and discharged several rounds in his direction. Upon seeing this, the other young man reportedly fled the scene. At the time of the incident, the deceased’s common-law wife and children were inside his house, however, no one else was injured.
When Police arrived at the scene, Chapman’s body was examined and discovered to have multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso. At the scene, Police discovered five 9mm spent shells and a warhead.
Several other persons were earlier questioned in relation to the incident, however, the suspect, who was reportedly clad in a white T-shirt, slim built and approximately 6’5 in height has since remained at large. Investigations are still ongoing.
