As of April 13, 2020, Guyana confirmed 47 cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), which has crippled health-care systems all around the world. As such, many fitness athletes around the nation are urging citizens to keep fit and protect themselves, including Carlos Peterson, Guyana’s strongest man.
In a sit-down with Guyana Times Sport, Peterson listed various measures that an individual could take to help boost their immune system in combating COVID-19. “Firstly, I just want to say that how you carry yourself is how you would benefit in the long run. One of the things I do as an athlete is to keep myself fit not only in the gym but pushing in whatever cardio I can do. When it comes to multivitamins, I use marmite, it is an excellent source of Vitamin B12; muscles aren’t everything but it is how you treat your body. I also use cod liver oil and fish oil, not only to protect my joints but to help my body rejuvenate and I also use ginseng,” he noted.
Peterson also advised the general public that before using a product they should do thorough research (including seeking a doctor’s advice) to ensure it is safe for them to use. He also noted that some other natural products that could be used to boost the immune system are lime, ginger, lemon, turmeric, pineapple and watermelon. He relayed that these products could be used to create natural juices which would benefit the body in the long run as they contain Vitamin C and zinc. Peterson went on to stress on the importance of aloe vera, which could be found in most backyard or kitchen gardens in Guyana.
In closing, he said, “You should be able to know your body; exercise is very good, as it will help to build your immune system. I urge everyone to always hydrate themselves and maintain their metabolism at peak standard.”
