Photographer on $1M bail for alleged $153M theft

Days after being arrested for an alleged $153 million theft over a five-year period, 37-year-old Quincy Baird, a photographer from Plantation “B,” Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was granted $1 million bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Baird, who was charged with larceny by clerk or servant, was accused of stealing the money from One Communications Guyana Inc. between July 1, 2021, and February 18, 2025.

It was reported that on December 23, 2025, the suspect was contacted in relation to the allegation, during which he was arrested and escorted to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, where he was interrogated. On Monday, he appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty and was not required to plead to the indictment. Nevertheless, he was granted bail and will make his next court appearance on February 11, 2026. As conditions for bail, the accused was required to lodge his passport with the court, have no contact with any One Communications Guyana Inc. employee and report every second Friday of the month to the CID Headquarters.
