Pigeon XI lift Dave’s Variety Trophy

The KPL fundraiser ended last Sunday at the Everest Cricket Club ground with three more exciting softball matches in the male open category. In the round robin one-day tournament, it was Pigeon XI with two wins from both of their matches that emerged as the champions.

The champions beat Farm XI by four wickets in a high scoring game on a big outfield. Farm IX lost nine wickets but got to 124 from their 12 overs. Quazie Yusuf made 25 and Ralph Layne 21 with Vishan Smart taking 3-13 and Lakeram Latchman 2-31. In reply, Pigeon XI raced to 130-6 from nine overs with Sheldon Adams hitting six sixes in 37 while Lakeram Latchman made 31 (4×6’s). Keisho Ramsarran 2-24 and Ameer Khan 2-40 were the best bowlers.
Super Star was next on the list for Pigeons. Chasing 97 for victory, Pigeon got there with nine wickets in hand. For Super Stars, Deodat Hemraj made 27 and Steve Chan 18. Sheldon Adams and Ewart Buyrne picked up three wickets each for the victors.
In the other round-robin match of the day, Farm XI registered their lone victory by narrowly beating Super Stars by one wicket. Super Stars made 102/5 from their 12 overs with D. Budram stroking 29 (3×4; 1×6) and Davindra Singh getting 30 (4×4). Rawl Reid then hit a quick-fire 39 (2×4; 4×4) and was supported by Kishan Ramkumar with 22 (3×6) as Farm XI got to 105/9 from 10.2 overs.
There were three wickets each for S. Vijay, Ajay Persaud and Keishor Sedebyal.
Pigeon XI received the Dave’s Variety Store of Albert street trophy for their efforts. The event was part of the continued efforts to raise funds for Samuel Kingston who requires eye surgery.
