International Tri-Nation Series which bowls off today at Providence.

In a statement, Persaud stated “Unfortunately, the National Communications Network Inc. (NCN) will not be bringing Radio commentary Mr. President, I humbly appeal to you to use your good office and make that positive intervention so that our fellow Guyanese who depend on radio for their education, information and entertainment on cricket, can follow the sport.”

Persaud who is also a teacher at the Mortice Primary School is strongly lobbying for ball by ball commentary on radio since in his opinion not all Guyanese Cricket lovers can go to the National Stadium and since the games will be played locally at Providence there will not be any television coverage for obvious reasons.

Persaud further asked for His Excellency to think about our fishermen, coconut pickers, taxi drivers, the visually impaired, our labourers, those that live in far flung areas and many others who will not be able to follow our number one sport since there will be no radio coverage.

“Please, Mr. President, let your heart reach down and help the unfortunate up. Your kindness and timely

intervention will surely lift the spirit of radio listeners and spread the interest of our number one sport. Imagine, other Caricom countries will have live radio commentary but Guyanese will suffer the indignity of not having?

I am confident that the Patriotism that lies at the core of your heart, mind, body and soul will guide you in your intervention. I ask of you to help because you are the leader of this great country. Nothing unites us liked Cricket.”

West Indies and South Africa play the first game today at the Guyana National Stadium from 13:00 Hrs and from all reports there will be no live radio commentary locally while commentary will emanate from Providence for the rest of the Region and further afield.

Persaud ended the statement by stating “So please Mr. President, I am on my knees begging, that you pick up that telephone and make that call that will put smiles on the faces of hundreds of thousands in Guyana.”

Other than Inderjeet Persaud the commentary team for the Guyana leg of the Tri-Nation Series will have other Guyanese voices including Sean Devers, Matthew Kissoon, Neil Barry, Travis Dowlin and Clyde Butts. Butts and Dowlin are former Test players. The lead commentator is Barbadian Andrew Mason while John Ramsingh is the Producer.
