PMTC-1 retains Aswell Mohabir title

– PM females, Black Beatles successful

Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC)-1 was outstanding in Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) season opener on Saturday at Blairmont Community Centre ground, winning the male’s title of the Aswell Mohabir tournament for a second successive year.
The champions defeated PMTC2 in 3-1 with Adriel Moore being named the Most Valuable Player. PMTC-1 won the first set 28-18 before surrendering the second 18-25. However, they rebounded beautifully to capture the third and fourth sets 26-24 and 25-23 respectively in a fierce battle for the title.
In the earlier matches, PMTC1 got past Tain Humanitarians in two sets (25-22, 26-24) while PMTC2 beat GTCPM also in two straight sets to set up the final clash.

Candacy Mentore was the top female player as Port Mourant (PM) females stunned defending champions Orealla Jets to be crown new champions. They won in two straight sets which ended 25-22 and 26-24.
Black Beatles won the junior title, defeating Hustlers in the finals. Hellon Singh from Beatles was adjudged MVP.
Prior to the final, Hustlers and Beatles defeated first timers Kennard’s Union in the preliminary stage.
According to President of the BVA, Levi Nedd it was a tough task to get all the teams but nevertheless it was a good day for volleyball as it was filled with energy and played in the spirit of the game. A total of nine teams participated across the three categories. Due to early overnight and early morning rain the tournament started on concrete court before completing on the grass.
