PNCR Reg 10 Councillor found dead

Police in Linden are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Councillor attached to the Regional Democratic Council of Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), who was found dead in his home on Friday.

Dead: Gordon Callender

He has been identified as Gordon Callender, also called “Bad Heart”, a longstanding member of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR). He was also the Chairman of the Regional Health Committee, who had supported the Ministry of Health’s call for persons to get vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.
A video seen by this publication showed the man in a sitting position in the living room of his house, with his mouth wide open.
Guyana Times was told that the man was last seen alive on Thursday by his colleagues at a statutory meeting, where they “had a good time”.
Family members of Callender are of the belief that he might have suffered a heart attack. However, they are awaiting a post mortem examination which would determine the cause of his death.

Several persons have taken to social media to offer condolences to the bereaved family members and friends of Callender.
The PNCR, at a press briefing on Friday, also expressed its condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Callender, stating that he would be missed.
Callendar is the third Councillor to have died since the installation of the ninth Council last September. In June last year, Vice Chairman of Region 10, Douglas Gittens, died of complications caused by the deadly coronavirus.
