This was confirmed by A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) Commander Clifton Hicken on Friday, during an interview with media operatives.
The commander explained that hours after the robbery, a male was arrested in Albouystown, Georgetown driving a car similar to the one used by the bandit who carried out the brazen robbery. He explained that another person was arrested later in the evening.
Both men are being interrogated by Police, but Hicken related that they are not being treated as suspects, but rather persons of interest.
He further explained that Police have secured the surveillance footage of the robbery and are presently reviewing it. Thus far, he noted that the footage has been of significant help.
The robbery has left a Cuban national nursing a gunshot wound to one of his legs. He was reportedly the taxi driver who took the robbery victim to the Jailing Outlet to make a purchase.
It was reported that at about 12:30h on the day in question, Elda Belle went to the Oronoque Street business and as she exited the motorcar, she was attacked by a lone gunman who relieved her of a bag containing $1.2 million.
The taxi driver reportedly attempted to apprehend the lone gunman and was shot. After inflicting the injury, the suspect boarded a blue Toyota Carina 212 motorcar, which was driven by an accomplice and fled the scene.
After the ordeal which last several minutes, the Police were contacted and a description of both the armed bandit and the car was provided to them, as they commenced their investigations. The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was admitted and treated.
