Police arrest suspect in Mahaica Market Square shooting incident

Almost two months after shooting two men at the Mahaica Market Square, East Coast Demerara (ECD), the suspect, who had been in hiding since the incident, has been arrested by Police in C Division.
Andrew Motilall, a minibus driver of Helena, Mahaica, was arrested Monday night at Annandale, ECD, during an intelligence-led operation. He is expected to be charged and placed before the court some time today.
Based on initial Police reports, Motilall had opened fire on a group of men, injuring two of them, following an argument on January 27.
The injured men were 33-year-old Marlon Browne, a farmer of Helena, Mahaica; and 23-year-old Teron Orwin Gordon, a labourer of 9 Belmont, Mahaica.
According to reports, the incident occurred about 21:40h while the two victims were in a shop at the Mahaica Market Square playing dominoes after they were approached by Motilall and an argument ensued between the three.
The driver subsequently left in his bus, but later returned holding a handgun which he used to immediately discharge rounds in the direction of Browne and Orwin.
The victims attempted to run for cover, but sustained gunshot injuries while so doing. Browne received a wound to his left chest and Gordon received a wound to his left ribs and to his left forearm.
They were both rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where they were hospitalised and treated before being released days later. Investigators had recovered five .357 magnum spent shells from the crime.
